The Use of Sidr Leaves and Water for the treatment of Witchcraft.

Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-'Asqalani (rahimuAllah) said in Al-Fath that Ibn Abtal stated in the books of Wahab bin Menabah to take seven leaves of a green Sidr, grind them with two rocks, add water to it, read the verse of Al Kursi (2:255) and Al-Qawakil (the Surah's which start with "Qul"), take three sips, then wash up with the rest. This will remove all of his afflictions, and is a cure for men who have sexual disorders.

(Fath Al-Bari -10/233)

Al-Lalkaii said that Mohammad Ibn Othman related that Said bin Mohammad Al-Hanat stated, ''Ishaq ibn Abi Israel said, "I heard Sufyan says that Sulayman ibn Omaya (Sheikhh of Thaqif) ibn Masoud heard A'ishah (radhi Allahu anha) advise a woman to use Sidr and water to wash the traces of magic.

(Sharh Usul I'tiqad Ahl As-Sunnah wal-Jamaa -7/1288).

Shaykh Abd Al Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baaz (rahimuAllah) said that the cure of magic after its affliction is beneficial, Allah Willing. A man who cannot have sexual intercourse with his wife is advised to take seven green leaves of Sidr, grind them, put them in a container of water enough for washing the body. He should read the verse of Ayah ul Kursi (2:255), Al Ikhlaas (112), Al Falaqq (113), An Naas (114). He should also read the verses of magic in Surah Al-Aaraf (7) where Allah says, "
And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. | So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. | And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. [He is referring to verses 117-119]. The verses in Surah Yunus (10) where Allah says, "So when the magicians came, Moses said to them, "Throw down whatever you will throw." | And when they had thrown, Moses said, "What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters. | And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it." [Here, he is referring to verses 80 to 82]. And the verses in Surah Taha (20), in which Allah says, "They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw." | He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes]. | And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses. | Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior. | And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is." [Here the Shaykh is referring to verses 65 to 69].

After reading the above verses, one needs to take three sips from the water container, then wash up with the rest [make Ghusl from it]. This will remove the affliction, Allah Willing. If necessary, it could be repeated twice or more until one is cured.

(Majmu Fatawi Shaykh Abd Al Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baaz).

Ghusl should be made in a clean place and the water should be caught in a container and poured outside in the garden/yard. It is not permitted to let it go into the drain due to it being water upon which the Qur'aan has been recited.

Shaykh Abdullah bin Abd Ar Rahman Al-Jibreen stated, "I used Ruqya on relatives and friends who were not able to have intercourse with their wives following what Ibn Katheer (rahimuAllah) said. I used Sidr leaves and recited the verses he mentioned and they were cured, Allah Willing.''

It is worth mentioning that using the water of Sidr in the stated manner has a great effect, and lots of therapists are aware of this fact. However, its benefit is not only confined to men who cannot have intercourse with his wives, but also includes those afflicted with epilepsy, evil eye and magic in general (used for washing only).

Sidr leaves can be purchased in the UK from here.

Sunnah Treatments, including Ruqyah - Recitation from the Qur'an as used for the treatment of Magic (Sorcery / Jadoo), Evil Eye (Nazar), Jinn complications

Asalaamu Alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatu,

The reality is that issues with the Jinn are very common and a lot of people are suffering, sometimes for many years, with symptoms they think are either completely normal or uncureable - nightmares, insomnia, migraines, epilepsy, abdominal bloating, infertility, miscarriage, bipolar disorder, unexplained aches and pains and many others.

Every illness is cureable with the permission of Allah, simply from reciting the powerful words of Allah, the Most Gracious. As Allah Azzawajjal says in the Holy Qur'an;

"And We sent down of the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe." [17:82]

and also;

"O Mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (the Qur'an) enjoining all that is good and forbidding all that is evil, and a healing for that which is in your breasts, a guidance and a mercy for the believers." [10-57]

Some verses from the Qur'aan which can be used as Ar Ruqyah Ash Shari'ah.

Recite 11 times each the following Surah's and verses;

1 Al Fatihah
2 Al Baqarah (1 to 4 inclusive)
2 Al Baqarah (102)
2 Al Baqarah (255 to 257 inclusive)
2 Al Baqarah (284 to 286 inclusive)
4 An Nisaa' (76)
7 Al 'Ar'aaf (117 to 122 inclusive)
10 Yunus (81 and 82)
17 Al 'Isra' (82)
20 TaaHaa (68 to 70 inclusive)
109 Al Kaafiroon
112 Al Ikhlaas
113 Al Falaq
114 An Naas

Spittle on water which is used to drink and bathe in. Catch the water used for bathing and pour it in the garden rather than letting it go down the drain.

Spittle on pure olive oil which is used for daily massage on the points of pain and used before, during and after Hijama.

Keep all bottles sealed and in a clean spot out of direct sunlight.

Prophetic Guidance regarding the Evil Eye (Nazar).

What is the evil eye?

Imam Muslim (rahimullah) reported that Ibn Abbaas (radhi Allahu anhu) narrated the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) as saying, “The evil eye is true, and if there is anything that would precede Predestination, it would be the evil eye.”

The Arabic word “al-‘Ayn” (translated as the evil eye) refers to when a person harms another by looking at them or their property with maliciousness and jealousy. It starts when the person likes or covets a thing, then his evil feelings affect it, by means of his repeated looking at the object of his jealousy. Allah the Almighty commanded His Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) to seek refuge with Him from the envier, as He said in the Qur’an (interpretation of the meaning):

“And from the evil of the envier when he envies”
[113:5]

In Islam, the harmful effect of an envious person on the envied person cannot be denied. It is a fact that an evil and envious soul touches the envied person in such an evil manner that it causes them harm, both physically and mentally. Prophetic Medicine offers very lucid and effective treatments for the evil eye, but first, it is important to recognise its symptoms.

Symptoms.

Sheikh Abd ul-Azeez al-Sadhaan (may Allah preserve him) said,

“If it is not from a real illness, then the symptoms [of evil eye] may take the following forms:

Headaches that move from one part of the head to another; yellow pallor in the face; sweating and urinating a great deal; weak appetite; tingling, heat or cold in the limbs; palpitations in the heart; pain in the lower back and shoulders; sadness and anxiety; sleeplessness at night; strong reactions due to abnormal fears; a lot of burping, yawning and sighing; withdrawal and love of solitude; apathy and laziness; a tendency to sleep much; health problems with no known medical cause.

These signs or some of them may be present according to the strength of the evil eye or the number of people who put the evil eye on others.”

Al-Ruqyah al-Shar’iyyah (p. 10)

It is best to see an experienced Raqi if you are inflicted with any of these symptoms.

The power of Prayers in reversing the effects of the evil eye.

According to the authentic Prophetic narrations, our Mother Hahzrat Ayesha (radhi Allahu anha) once said, “The Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) ordered me [or somebody else] to do Ruqya if there was danger from an evil eye.” (Sahih al Bukhari Book 69, 7:634).

From this narration, we can see that our beloved Nabi (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) instructed us to use prayers.

Abu Abdullah al Tayahi narrated that he was once on his way to a pilgrimage to Makkah riding on a beautiful and swift camel. A man known for inflicting malevolent evil eye was also in the same caravan of travellers. His evil was so great that he would rarely look at something and it would not collapse.

Half way though the journey, someone mentioned to Abu Abdullah, “Guard your camel against the malevolent eye of this man!”

Abu Abdullah replied, “He can force no harm upon my camel.”

An eavesdropper heard the conversation and went back to tell the owner of the evil eye. In pride and arrogance, the malevolent person waited for Abu Abdullah to be busy and away from his camel, so he stood before it and gazed at it. Immediately the camel became enraged and fell to the ground.

When Abu Abdullah returned, he was told what had happened. He demanded, “Lead me to him!” As soon as he saw the man, Abu Abdullah recited the following prayer;

“I call upon the Sovereign Name of Allah, the power of which curbs aggression, Whose shelter is sacred, and Whose barrier is unbreakable, and which is a burning brand against mischief; and by its supremacy, I rescind and nullify the effects of the malevolent evil eye, and cast such effects back upon the aggressor and what he loves most. [He then quoted the Holy Qur’an]; Look carefully, do you see a single flaw therein? Yet look once more, and again, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out.” (67:3-4)

Immediately the eyeball of the evildoer popped out if its socket, thus he lost his sight. The camel got back on her feet, vindicated and cured.

According to Imam ibn Qayyim al Jauziyah, there are several Islamic prayer formulas for warding off the evil eye, such as reciting the first chapter of the Holy Qur’an, Surah al Fatihah;

Surah Al-Fatihah (1)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.
The Beneficent, the Merciful.
Owner of the Day of Judgment.
Thee (alone) we worship; Thee (alone) we ask for help.
Show us the straight path.
The path of those whom Thou hast favoured.
Not (the path) of those who earn Thy anger nor of those who go astray.

The other two key chapters are 113 and 114, Surahs Al Falaq and An Naas;

Surah Al-Falaq (113)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak.
From the evil of that which He created;
From the evil of the darkness when it is intense.
And from the evil of malignant witchcraft.
And from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Surah An-Naas (114)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.
The King of mankind.
The God of mankind.
From the evil of the sneaking whisperer.
Who whispers in the hearts of mankind.
Of the jinn and of mankind.

The other very effective prayer formula is Ayat ul Kursi;

Ayat ul Kursi (from Surah Al-Baqarah 2, Ayah 255)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal.
Neither slumber nor sleep overtake Him.
Unto Him belong whatsoever is in the Heavens and whatsoever is in the Earth.
Who is he that can intercede with Him save by His leave?
He knows that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He wills.
His Throne includes the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them.
He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.

(2:255)

It is also recorded in the authentic narrations from the Holy Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) about using the water in which the perpetrator of the evil eye has conducted Wudhu, to pour it over the victim of the evil eye in order to cure him or her of it;

Imam Ahmad (15550), Imam Maalik (1811), al-Nasaa’i and Ibn Hibbaan narrated from Sahl ibn Haneef that the blessed Messenger of Allah (pbuh) came out and travelled with Sahl towards Makkah, until they were in the mountain pass of ‘Al-Kharaar’ in Al-Jahfah.

There, Sahl ibn Haneef did ghusl (ritual bath), and he was a handsome fair-skinned man with beautiful skin. Aamir ibn Rabee’ah, one of Banu ‘Adiyy ibn Ka’b tribe, looked at him whilst he was doing ghusl and remarked, “I have never seen such beautiful skin as this, not even the skin of a virgin!” and immediately Sahl fell to the ground.

They went to the Blessed Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) and said, “Oh Messenger of Allah, can you do anything for Sahl? [because] by Allah, he cannot raise his head (due to the evil eye).”

Nabi (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?”

They said, “Aamir ibn Rabee’ah looked at him.”

So the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) called Aamir and rebuked him strongly.

He (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like [in him], then pray for blessing for him.” Then he said to him, “Wash yourself for him.”

So Aamir washed his face, hands, forearms, knees and the sides of his feet, and inside his izaar (lower garment) in the vessel [of water, so as to ensure the washing water was caught in it]. Then that water was poured over Sahl, and a man poured it over his head and back from behind. Then Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong with him.

Hijama breaks the effect of Evil Eye and Sorcery, by the Permission of Allah.

Hijama is recommended for everyone who is suffering from the effects of Evil Eye.

Medinah Dates.

One of the benefits of eating dates which are grown in the blessed city of Medinatul Munawwarah is that they protect the body from witchcraft and evil eye;

Saad bin Abi Waqaas narrated that God’s Messenger (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Whoever eats seven Medinah dates for his breakfast will suffer from neither poison nor witchcraft for that day.” (Bukhari and Muslim).

They should be used alongside the ruqya prayers.

You can find out more about the benefits of dates by clicking here.

How to prevent inflicting others with the evil eye.

If a person fears that he or she might touch other people with their jealous thoughts, let them fend off its harm by saying, “Oh Allah, bless what you have given him/her” when they see something they like in other people’s property or beauty. Further, saying “Masha’Allah” (what Allah has willed) or “La Quwwata illah Billah” (there is no power except from Allah) also helps fend off inflicting others with the evil eye.

Hisham ibn ‘Urwah narrated that his father used to say, “What Allah wills will certainly come to pass, there is no power except from Allah” upon seeing something that he liked and upon entering one of his gardens.

Women, in particular, should be careful of their gaze since it is well known that they tend to have more innate jealousy than men do. This is a natural trait inherent in females.

If the malicious gaze of an evil-doer falls upon a soul who is protected from the evil eye (because he/she is taking precautions), it is well documented that the evil may return back upon the person who initially sent it.

Guarding our attainments and children.

Amongst other essential preventative cures against the evil eye is to ensure Muslims are always discrete about their achievements, free from ostentatiousness in our actions and able to maintain full reservation regarding what others consider to be enviable, for example, our wealth, beautiful family members and children. New brides and pregnant women are also particularly susceptible and so should take care to guard themselves when going out.

Teaching our children how to recite the last three Surahs of the Holy Qur’an (112, 113 and 114) and Ayat ul Kursi on a daily basis from an early age is also important.

The impermissibility of using amulets and charms.

Wearing a piece of jewellery, or hanging up an object inside the home, which either depicts an eye, or which contains charms supposedly thought to repel the evil eye, is strictly forbidden. The use of such objects has no basis in Shari’ah, and constitutes a major sin. This is because our reliance upon any tangible or intangible object, besides the Almighty Creator, to give us protection against evil is a form of Shirk. Shirk is never forgiven by Allah if we persist in it. Any such amulets should be removed from one’s possession and destroyed insha’Allah.

Be wary of Taweez.

Many Muslims believe that Taweez will protect them from the Evil Eye and one should be very suspicious of copies of Taweez given to you claiming to offer protection from every kind of disease, Evil Eye, marriage problems, jinn and shayateen etc.

How to identify a magician. Many so called "peers" who make extraordinary claims about being able to get rid of all your problems overnight are never to be trusted, as they are almost certainly using the jinn and this is strictly forbidden. It is Shirk, which brings Allah's Wrath and always ends up in more problems later down the line.

While wearing the verses of the blessed Qur'an as a Taweez has not been forbidden per se, it must be noted that our beloved Nabi (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) never gave his precious grandsons Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain any Taweez from the Qur'an to wear on their bodies, considering they were the most beloved children on the Earth to any of the Muslims at the time, their protection was paramount to the furthering of Islam, yet Allah's blessed Messenger (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) left them solely to the protection of their Creator alone.

Also, due to the sanctity of Allah's Words, it will not be permissible to wear Qur'anic verses when visiting the toilet, even if they are placed inside a locket/bound inside a pouch and hidden under clothes. Such an act could be considered akin to taking a copy of the Holy Book into the bathroom (even if it is wrapped in a cloth) (!)

It is to be noted that there is no might and no power besides that of the Almighty Creator and while there is great barakah in Allah's blessed Words, they are only beneficial if they are recited verbally (with tajweed and belief). There is no benefit in only wearing them or hanging them up inside the home since if this is done, they would neither reside in the heart nor in the mind.

It is a very serious sin to shorten the verses of the Holy Qu'ran, or write them in any other order than in which they were revealed (like for example, switching the words in certain ayahs around or writing them backwards, or representing them as numbers). Writing the verses of the Qur'an in this kind of way is the characteristic of the magicians and allies of the Jinn.

Below are a couple of examples of Taweez which are very dangerous and strictly forbidden to wear and should be immediately destroyed if found.

The correct way to dispose of Taweez can be found here.

The reality of what "Taweez" and talismans contain.

May Allah protect everyone from the evil eye.
Ameen.

Strengthening the Memory.

Frankincense (‘Lubbaan’ in Arabic) is an aromatic resin produced by a certain genus of trees grown mainly in Yemen, Somalia and Oman, and is traditionally used in perfumes, incense and as a medicine. The resin is tapped and allowed to harden, before being powdered. It is most commonly very light yellow in colour and is discussed as one of the medicines used in the treatment of forgetfulness.

[Page 337 of Healing with the Medicine of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) - Darussalam 2003]

While a number of Hadith have been presented in this above book which suggest the use of Frankincense was promoted by the Blessed Companions of Rasool'Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) for forgetfulness, I have been unable to verify their sources as of yet or confirm if they are Sahih.

According to texts translated from the works of Ibn al Qayyim (rahimullah), the application of Frankincense as a remedy has a simple and clear reasoning. Mild amnesia, forgetfulness or a weak memory of past experiences, events or words results from a corrupt humour somewhere in the body. This corrupt humour affects different parts of the brain, causing ill-disposition, particularly in people with cold, damp temperaments. This condition produces defective memory and thus blocks the brain’s natural ability to retain messages in sequence or to store information.

Frankincense, which contains the opposite attributes, thus helps to repair and balance the bodily humours. This helps ultimately to remove the blockage and restore the memory. Amongst the other numerous benefits of frankincense; it aids the treatment of tuberculosis, stomach ache and diarrhoea, and it helps the digestion, helps expel wind, relieve eye sores / refreshes the eyes, treats infections and helps heal cuts and bruises when used in a bandage. It also helps treat a speech impediment (both tongue-tie and stuttering). Burning frankincense helps repel mosquitoes and other flying insects.

The brothers at the TibbeNabawi.org site say that a 'tea' can be made by tying the frankincense resin in a small cloth like a piece of muslin, and adding it to boiling water. Let the water simmer for around 5 min before extracting the frankincense and allowing the tea to cool down before drinking.

Both the resin and the oil can be purchased online.
My recommendation is food-grade Hujari frankincense which can be purchased here - http://freeyoursenses.co.uk/#/yellow-hojari/4555599604

You can find more information about frankincense here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankincense, including on how frankincense is graded - http://freeyoursenses.co.uk/#/grading/4555298751

A weak memory may also sometimes be due to dryness and can be overcome by increasing the intake of water and other fresh, clean, pure fluids.

Remedies for Forgetfulness which are substantiated by the Sunnah.

I would encourage all those who are looking to improve their memory to use the remedies below in combination first.

Hijama.

A very beneficial treatment for weak memory is Hijama (wet cupping) and although I have not come across any Sahih Hadith directly pertaining to the use of Hijama for improvement of the memory, there are plenty of strong sources praising the excellence of Hijama in general and that it is a cure for a wide range of illnesses. There are also strong evidences from the Sunnah that Hijama was used by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) to cure ailments of the head.

It was narrated by Jabir bin 'Abdullah (rahimullah) that he paid Al-Muqanna a visit during his illness and said, "I will not leave till he gets cupped, for I heard Allah's Apostle (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) saying, "There is healing in cupping [Hijama]."
Sahih al Bukhari Volume 7, Book 71, Number 600.

It was also narrated by Ibn Abbaas (radhi Allahu anhu) that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was cupped on his head for an ailment he was suffering from while he was in a state of Ihram. at a water place called Lahl Jamal located on the road to Makkah. Ibn 'Abbas further said: Allah s Apostle was cupped on his head for unilateral headache while he was in a state of Ihram.
Sahih al Bukhari Volume 7, Book 71, Number 602

Caution will be required when applying Hijama on the head. Cupping at the back of the head (on the occipital bone) carries a high risk of causing further memory loss. Excessive cupping on other parts of the head may also cause the same, and Allah Azzawajjal knows best. The Hijama practitioner should take extra care and not remove a lot of blood. The top middle  part of the head (crown) is the Sunnah point - Sahih al Bukhari Vol. 3, Book 29, Hadith 62

You can find out more about the benefits of Hijama by clicking here.

Ruqyah.

The established Hadith confirm that the Recitation of the Qur'an was performed by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) to treat people (mainly those inflicted with Magic or Evil Eye) and that there is no harm in reciting it yourself as long as it is only from the Qur'an;

A'isha (radhi Allahu anha) narrated that Allah's Apostle (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) used to treat with a Ruqyah saying, "O the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble The cure is in Your Hands, and there is none except You who can remove it (the disease)."
Sahih al Bukhari Volume 7, Book 71, Number 640.

For strengthening the memory and progressing in Islamic Knowledge, the following verse of the Holy Qur’an should be recited (in Arabic) an odd number of times everyday after the Salaah and thereafter make supplication to Allah Azzawajjal with the intention that He strengthen your memory;

“My Lord! Expand for me my breast [with assurance]. Ease my task for me. Remove the knot [impediment] from my tongue. So that they may understand my speech.”

[Qur'an 20:25-28]

Epilepsy.

According to Islamic Medicine, there are two kinds of epilepsy; the first type arises from a physical imbalance of hormones and impulses inside the body and brain. This type is commonly acknowledged by practitioners of modern western medicine and is treated with drugs and therapy. The second type is just as real and of just as much concern. It is the symptom which arises from the effects of negative spiritual forces (the Jinn) which have invaded the human body and are residing in it. This type cannot be treated with drugs or therapy. The negative forces can only be expelled from the human body by using Ruqya (recitation of certain verses of the Qur’an) administered by a righteous soul (an experienced Raqi).

It is important to acknowledge that both types of epilepsy exist, then to identify which type a patient is suffering from and then to administer the specific cure for that type.

Epilepsy resulting from Possession.

The Jinn are a very real creation of God, outlined by Him the Holy Qur’an and acknowledged by His Prophets, Holy people and wise physicians. They have been created from smokeless fire and cannot be seen by the human eye because they are the descendants of iblees (satan). Allah allows them to take the form of another living object (usually a snake, dog, donkey, human being or a scorpion) or appear as apparitions, speak to humans and invade the human body and possess it. They are confused by non Muslims for ‘ghosts’ if they appear to be seen by them or whisper to them. In reality, ‘ghostly apparitions’ which are the souls of deceased people do not exist as Allah has forbidden those who have left this World to return to it for any reason.

Some Jinn are good and decent, while others are innately evil. Possession is always caused by evil Jinn [shayateen] who are usually drawn to children, women who dress immodestly and vulnerable, depressed people. Having said that, healthy people can also be possessed by them, most times as a result of sorcery, but sometimes for no apparent reason. Epileptic fits and seizures can commonly be some of the many symptoms of such possession.

Where drugs are not having any effect upon an epileptic patient, it may be useful to consider that they may have been possessed by a Jinni who is causing the fits. But, please don’t panic and jump to this conclusion immediately just because the drugs are not working. Human possession by Jinn has marked and very particular indicators. The patient should be taken to see an experienced Imam or Raqi before any firm conclusion is drawn.

Of the clearer indications of possession, whilst in the state of an epileptic fit or in the resting state, a sufferer may inadvertently rip their clothes off, have an odd or piercing stare, use very foul language, mumble incoherently, suffer from re-occurring nightmares, feel extreme fear at the slightest thing, speak in an odd or harsh voice, commit self-harm or attack the most beloved of their relatives, have an extreme dislike for the recitation of the Qur’an, feel pain and scream or try and get away upon hearing the Azhaan etc. If this is happening, it is important to see a Raqi as soon as possible.

Cure is only from Allah, along with prevention, is two-fold. The responsibility for one part, by the Permission of Allah, is the responsibility of the Raqi, and that for the other part is attributed to the patient themselves. Both parts need to be exercised to ensure full healing from Allah Azzawajjal takes place and the illness does not return.

For the part attributed to the Healer, where the beloved Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) was present in such cases, he used to say to the possessed person while addressing the Jinni within him/her,
“Oh enemy of Allah, Depart! I am the Messenger of Allah!”

An Imam once said that he recited the following Ayah in the ear of the person afflicted with epilepsy;

“Did you think that We created you in play, [without any purpose] and that you would not be brought back to Us?” (Qur’an 23:115)

The she-Jinni possessing him replied, “Indeed!” while extending her voice and mocking the Qur’an.
So the Imam took a stick and beat the epileptic person on his neck until the Imam’s hands got tired. Those present did not doubt that the sick person would die from the severity of such a beating.
While beating the patient, the she-Jinni screamed, “I love him!”
The Imam told her, “But he does not love you.”
She said, “I want to accompany him to perform Hajj!”
The Imam said, “He does not want to go to Hajj with you.”
She then said, “I will leave him in your honour.”
The Imam said, “No. Leave him as an obedience to Allah and His Messenger (pbuh).”
She then said, “I will leave him alone.”

The patient woke up and started looking around, saying, “What brought me to the presence of this Imam?”
The people around him asked, “What about the beating you took just now?”
He said, “Why would the Imam beat me when I have done nothing wrong?”
He had no idea that he had been beaten and that the Jinni had been removed from him!

Beatings are not nowadays administered, instead the Raqi only has to slap his hand very gently on the patient, Allah Azzawajjal causes the Jinni to feel extreme pain. Check this link to see the exorcism technique of Abu Tharr.

For the patient, it is vitally important to strengthen their Faith in Allah and their morals. This includes, performing the five daily prayers without fail, giving in charity, fasting, increasing their knowledge of Islam and practicing upon the Sunnah of our beloved Messenger (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam), keeping away from bad activities, sins, haram or doubtful food and income, and the company of immoral people. The result; a soul becomes naturally closer to its Lord, has his/her supplications answered without delay and is distanced from the effects of evil beings and evil activities.

Seeking refuge in Allah from the evil creation (Both of the Jinn, mankind and of the devils) is also essential. Our beloved Messenger (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) has instructed us to read the following Surahs of the Qur’an in Arabic three times each, every morning and evening for protection;

Surah Al Ikhlaas (112) The Purity
http://quran.com/112

Say: He is Allah, the One
Allah-hus Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks)
He begets not, nor was He begotten
And there is no co-equal or anyone comparable unto Him

Surah Al Falaq (113) The Daybreak
http://quran.com/113

Say: I seek refuge with Allah, the Lord of the daybreak
From the evil of what He has created
And from the evil of the darkening night as it comes with its darkness
And from the evil of witchcraft then they blow in the knots (a form of spell-casting)
And from the evil of the envier when he envies (malicious jealousy, hasad/evil eye).

Surah An Naas (114) Mankind
http://quran.com/114

Say: I seek refuge with Allah, the Lord of Mankind
The King of Mankind
The Ilah (God) of Mankind
From the evil of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who withdraws (from such whispering after one conducts the remembrance of Allah).
Who whispers in the breasts (chests) of Mankind
Of Jinn and Men

Epilepsy resulting from physical causes.

This type of epilepsy alters the constitution of the body and is accompanied by spasms that prevent the limbs functioning normally. The sufferer is not able to stand upright for very long; they will fall down and foam accumulates in and around the mouth.

This type of epilepsy causes intense pain during seizures and is a chronic illness which is hard to cure. It can remain for many years, especially in those over the age of 25.

During the state of a fit or seizure, the sufferer is not in control of what is happening; for this reason they are free of sin and will not be accountable for whatever they commit in this state (they are still accountable for whatever they commit in the resting state). If they endure with patience and undying faith in Allah, their guaranteed home is in Paradise.

It was narrated by 'Ata bin Abi Rabah (radhi Allahu anhu) that, "Ibn 'Abbas (radhi Allahu anhu) said to me, "Shall I show you a woman of the people of Paradise?" I said, "Yes." He said, "This black lady came to the Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) and said, 'I get attacks of epilepsy and my body becomes uncovered; please invoke Allah for me.' The Prophet said (to her), 'If you wish, be patient and you will have (enter) Paradise; and if you wish, I will invoke Allah to cure you.' She said, 'I will remain patient,' and added, 'but I become uncovered, so please invoke Allah for me that I may not become uncovered.' So he invoked Allah for her."

During a seizure, the effected cerebral cavity in the brain is fighting the effects of an ailment. The limb or organ that the cavity controls will be affected until the seizure is over.

The 14 ways in which epilepsy effects the body - http://www.healthline.com/health/epilepsy/effects-on-body

Modern western medicine has made huge advances in the development of drugs which can reduce the effect and frequency of epileptic fits to a degree, but the cure rests with Allah alone. Invoking Him with prayers is an important aspect of healing from this debilitating illness. It calms the soul and gives hope to the heart. The state of the human psyche has an impact upon the effectiveness of the cure. Reciting the Surahs mentioned before in this Blog are just as useful here, as is reciting Surah Al Fatihah (1) an odd number of times and blowing onto the hands which should be wiped all over the head and body of the patient.

It is vitally important that everyone learns about the very real harm and demonic nature of witchcraft - read more at this link - http://salaf-us-saalih.com/2011/03/12/some-of-the-signs-of-magicians-sorcerers-and-how-to-identify-them/

In sha’Allah, with God’s leave, He will help all those suffering from epilepsy.

Treating Headaches and Migraines.

According to books based upon the works of Ibn Al Qayyim (rahimullah), headaches are generally caused by heat and fever in the head, because an accumulation of hot vapours are seeking a way out of the body. As the heat rises into the head, it causes an increase in amount of fluid in the cranium and a swelling of the membrane inside the skull. The pain can either be felt all over the head or more commonly, on one side of the head.

In comparison, Migraines are usually caused by an obstruction of a blood vessel or vessels in the brain. The vessels can be blocked by tiny air bubbles or foreign bodies carried in the bloodstream which find their way into the brain. Many people find that applying gentle pressure to the head during a migraine helps ease the pain.

The treatment for headaches and migraines depends upon their particular type and cause. Sometimes they can be treated with the induction of vomiting, by hijamah cupping, with compression head bandage or sometimes just with rest, quietness and calm.

Ruqya.

“Where they get no aching of the head nor any madness [intoxication].”

[Qur'an 56:19]

Recite the above verse an odd number of times (for example, 33) and then blow into cupped hands and wipe on the head of the patient. The headache should disappear soon in sha’Allah. Or, this verse can be recited along with Ayat ul Kursi (2:255) and Surah al Fatihah (1) on olive oil, which is then used to massage on the scalp.

Hijama.

Hijama (wet cupping) is an excellent and immediate remedy for a headache/migraine and there is a direct Sahih Hadith pertaining to the use of Hijama for this purpose;

It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (radhi Allahu anhu) that the Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) was cupped on his head for an ailment he was suffering from while he was in a state of Ihram. at a water place called Lahl Jamal. Ibn 'Abbas further said: "Allah's Apostle (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) was cupped on his head for unilateral headache while he was in a state of Ihram."
Sahih Al Bukhari Volume 7, Book 71, Number 602

And also;

Salmah (radhi Allahu anha), the maid-servant of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam), said: "No one complained to the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) of a headache but he told him to get himself cupped [hijama], or of a pain in his legs but he told him to dye them with henna."
